Message From Our President
Howard W. Wells
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I hope that everyone has had a safe and enjoyable summer. It has been a great year for Local 676, thus far. We have won numerous arbitrations and awards for our membership. We have been able to increase and maintain Health and Welfare in our contracts. Our Public Sector contracts are doing well, with a few outstanding due to the pressure that the State Government puts on Towns and Muncipalities with caps on wages, health care and pensions.
Local 676 continues to increase in members through organizing. New towns, car dealerships, food distribution and construction companies have come on board in the last year. If you know of a friend or family member who is being mistreated at their employment and is not being represented by a union, please have them contact us.
We were fortunate to be able to award fourteen (14) scholarships this past May to children of our members that have graduated high school and furthering their education. It is rewarding for the Executive Officers and staff of Local 676 as well as the membership to know that we have had a helping hand in the pursuit of their goals and dreams for this future generation.
The Local 676 Annual Picnic was once again a huge success with an amazing turnout of members and great weather. You can find some pictures from this event under the photo gallery tab at the top of the page. I look forward to this day every year to sit down and talk to our members and see their families having a great time.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our members and shop stewards. With out the support and cooperation from all of you, Local 676 would not be what it is today. With that being said and election season around the corner, I ask that everyone stay informed and get out and vote! Let's rally our support for the candidate that has the best interest for the working families. There are several politicians that stand with unions and support your rights as a worker. Unions have been strongly influential in fighting off anti-union legislation across the country. Make sure that when you vote, that you are voting in the best interest for you and your family as well as your fellow union brothers and sisters.
Remember to say a prayer for those members who have passed on and left us to keep the dream alive. They helped to make this union great and have passed that legacy on to us. It is our turn to protect our children's future.
Please keep those who are currently serving our country as well as those who have passed during their service in your prayers as well. It is up to all of us to honor their sacrifices and memories.
If you are a 676 Teamster member and have served for our country, we ask that you fill out the request form under the Teamster Veterans Link or contact the hall with your information, so that we can acknowledge you and add it to our Veteran Memorial Placque. Thank you for your service and dedication.
